Plastics, polythenes and glasses consist of chains of hydrocarbons, and some other resources from the family of Petroleum tightly joined together, never letting go. Their chemical property and relative availability and cheapness make them suitable choice as containers and packages. Sachets, bottles, carboys and jars are designed to hold drinking water to meet the demand by individuals, offices and households.

Bottled water has become very popular for quite a long time, slowly forcing sachet water into the rear owing to a number of indices. All around, we see the evidence from used plastics dumped on the streets of states of the world. Bottled water is a purified drinkable water packaged in bottles (glass, ceramics, plastic) for commercial distribution. Bottled water is common for its portability and durability. It can be packed with luggage on travel, tour and expedition. The packaging also earned it the right to adorn tables in occasions and special events. Sparkled ones provide a deeper refreshment than stilled ones. Mineral water is noted for provision of mineral nutrients needed by organs of the body and other substances can be induced which makes it serve other functional purposes.

First, the nature of plastic immuned it to unwarranted reaction with water. Plastic bottles are non-biodegradable, i.e. it cannot be broken down by micro-organisms. In fact, companies devise various means of killing or removing water micro-organisms before serving them in bottles. The shelf life speculated is also too short to allow the slightest breeding of harmful micro organisms. Nowadays, bottled water are first treated with UV rays or Distillation method before they are bottled. Perhaps, the only notable adverse effect is the pollution of the top layer of the ground. This is mostly common where appropriate system for recycling and repackaging is not put into place. In other places, plastics are burnt releasing gases into the atmosphere capable of damaging the ozone, which protects the earth from the harmful ultraviolet ray from the Sun.

Although plastics do not decompose by the action of micro-organisms, but the instruction to store them in a cool and dry place must be taken serious. In the presence of heat from improper storage or any other source, particles can be forced to disintegrate. The heat may cause displacement of particles which may cause the release of these carcinogenic materials into our drinking water. There is no need to panic because this process takes a long time. Without such interference, bottled water are as ideal and pure as the producer’s technical description.

Bottled water has a number of advantages over other packaging method. When compared with carboys, it is not as cumbersome. Plastic bottles are more durable than glass bottles and cannot easily be broken due to their structure. Sachet water has the advantage of price but bottled water compensates this through colorful designs and patterns. Images of models, football players and other public idols can be designed to capture attention to the bottle. Truthfully, bottled water has proven to be safe in terms of content and value and delivery.
