Water is perhaps the most important element to preserve organism life which makes the conservation of water essential for all organisms. Living organisms need water for daily consumption and development so that they can survive. Conserving water is very important because it makes water clean and available for regular supply. According to water.org, about 97% of earth water is salt water, 2% of 3 percent of the fresh water available on earth is found in glaciers and ice caps. Just 1% of water on earth is made available for consumption and because of this low availability of water, water must be conserved to make it available for regular use.

Why Conserving Water

Without water for consumption, humans and living organisms will die. Water sustains life and very necessary for human development and day to day activities. Below are reasons why water should be conserved.

Reason #1: Agricultural and Domestic Uses

Humans cannot survive without agricultural products in which water cannot be left out during its production. Vegetable production, meat production, and others require water, even the food you cook, dish washing, toilet cleaning, watering of your flower, etc. you make use of water. Water consumed in the agricultural sector and for domestic purposes is of large quantity and for this, water should be conserved to make it available for use.

Reason #2: You save Money

When less water is consumed and you save gallons of water, you get small charges from the water company. With water conservation, you can save money for other purposes instead of spending more on water when it is not conserved.

Reason #3: You save Energy

You conserve energy when you conserve water, energy is required to run equipment that supplies water to your home, offices and when less water is used, less water is supplied therefore you reduce and save the energy that is used in transporting water for consumption.

OUTCOMES OF NOT CONSERVING WATER

When water is not conserved, it can lead to several consequences. When the 1% of earth fresh water available for consumption is not conserved, it can lead to water shortage which can cause several problems to the environment.  Some of the outcomes of not conserving water are listed below

1. Irregular Food Supply: When there is no or limited water for agricultural uses, there will be low agricultural products for consumption which can result in the irregular supply of the agricultural products.

2. Water Costs: The more the water you consume, the more you will be charged by the water company. When water is not conserved, you spend lots of money on water transportation unless you have a water source like well in your house.
